Who Should Attend?  
Class will be of special interest to doulas, midwife birth assistants, massage therapists, other birth care service professionals.

What Will Be Covered?
Using the principles of Chinese Medicine, we will look at how to use substances to help improve and restore a woman's health during the childbearing year. The class will introduce foods, herbs, and external applications to help a woman maintain her health and to correct imbalances. We will look closely at these to know how to choose which of these "kitchen medicines" are appropriate for different circumstances.   Also we will discuss which food and substances to avoid and how they negatively impact health.   We can also answer questions about herbals and demonstrate "mother roasting", if there is interest.

    • Postpartum Recovery
    • Scar treatments
    • Breastfeeding
    • Postpartum Recovery
    • Scar treatments
    • Breastfeeding
    • Helping a woman regain her cycle and return to the fertile state

Diane Gioioso has studied and practiced acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine for the last 10 years. She holds a Master of Acupuncture degree and Certificate in Chinese Herbal Studies from the Academy for Five Element Acupuncture. She completed training in Shiatsu and Jin Shin Do at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, CA. She has a special interest in how Chinese medicine can improve women's health through the life cycle. She has a concentration on fertility and peripartum care in her practice and has worked locally at Genetics and IVF using acupuncture with assisted reproductive technology. She maintains a private practice in Great Falls, Virginia.
